Podcasters are Looking for
New Music to Play.
Are You Getting Your Music to Them?

by Eric Skiff, The Alternative Music Show

Back to The Academy

As a co-host (along with my wife, Sara) of The Alternative Music Show, I'm constantly looking for great alternative music to feature on our weekly podcast. We enjoy helping great under-appreciated and indie bands get the exposure they deserve, and to be honest, we just love finding new music.

The difference between podcasting and radio is that podcasters aren't getting paid. We're putting out shows because we're passionate about what we're doing, not to pay the rent. When we love a band, we tell people, and there's no one telling us what we have to play.

There are many ways that you can get in touch with podcasters and get your music heard by hundreds, thousands, or even more. The first and most effective is to get your music up on the Podsafe Music Network. The PMN is basically an agreement that says podcasters can play your music providing they let they know when it was played. You retain all your rights, and can revoke the PMN license at any time.

Just putting music up on the network might not get you noticed, though. You need to connect with individual podcasters and ask them to play your stuff. A great way to find podcasts that might like your stuff is to see who's played bands that you like. For example, if you're a singer-songwriter, search for podcasts that have played Meg Hutchinson or Edie Carey. If you're a little more rocking, see who's played Handhoney or Griddle.

You can also search for specific genre's in google, podcastalley, or yahoo podcasts search. Sometimes, there's even shows dedicated to your genre. TPN Rock and Accident Hash spin some harder tracks. The Jazz Show on TPN and Anji Bee's Chillcast play jazzy, chilled out tunes. Indiefeed has channels in every genre, and yes, Sara and I spin anything great we find in the genre-bending catch-all describing every thing from Lillith Fair to Pearl Jam, Alternative, on The Alternative Music Show

Send us your tunes, chances are, podcasters will be thrilled at the opportunity to play them!

Full Disclosure: Sara and I are proud members of The Podcast Network (TPN). We are not affiliated in any way with Podshow other than enjoying many of their podcasts and the Podsafe Music Network.
